Linocut is not just printing.
When I first discovered linocut printmaking, I was not thinking about perfect results. I was drawn to the quiet focus of carving, the resistance of the lino under the blade, and the excitement of revealing a fresh print for the first time. With simple tools and curiosity, I began turning everyday coastal scenes
and small moments into handmade prints.
Maybe you also want to step away from screens and create something real with your hands, both at home and outdoors?
You can imagine making your own prints, from your first carved design to beautiful artwork inspired by the coastline, but the tools, techniques, and process can feel intimidating at first. You want to enjoy the craft and create prints you are proud of, but you are not sure where to begin or how to build the confidence to take your linocut from the studio to the places that inspire you.
Here is the truth. Linocut printmaking does not require expensive equipment, a permanent studio, or previous experience. It is about learning simple techniques, working patiently, and following a clear process that transforms an idea into a finished print, whether you are carving at home or outdoors on the coast.
In A Simple Guide to Linocut Art: From Process to Print and The Field Press: Carving the Coastline, you will learn the complete linocut process, from choosing materials and preparing your first design to carving, inking, and printing. You will create complete projects while exploring different tools, mark-making techniques, repeat patterns, and two-colour designs, with opportunities to carve on the beach, by the harbour, or in your own home. By the end of the bundle, you will have the confidence to create your own prints, explore new sources of inspiration, and continue developing your printmaking skills independently.
Hi! My name is Mark!
With more than two decades as a photographer, I explored ways to develop my artisanal skills. Printmaking was the perfect medium for what I wanted to create and allowed me to become a visual storyteller through my art. I started Lino Lord in 2019 as a way to tell my story.
Based in the coastal town of Falmouth, Cornwall, my work reflects the rugged landscapes and quiet moments found along the shoreline.
For me, linocut is more than just an art form. It is a way to slow down and reconnect with the physical world. There is something deeply satisfying about the resistance of the lino under a sharp blade and the magic of peeling back a piece of paper to reveal a fresh print.
I believe that art should be accessible and tactile. I’ve spent years refining my "purist" approach to printmaking, focusing on traditional methods that anyone can master at home. My goal is to help you move past the fear of making mistakes and find the same sense of focus and calm that I find in my studio every day.

You’re probably wondering what the courses lessons actually look like. In this video, I want to show you a preview of both courses, with short snippets from a few lessons so you can see what to expect.
I’ve designed these courses to feel as if you’re pulling up a chair right next to me in my Falmouth studio or joining me out on the coast. You’ll see exactly how I hold the gouge, the angle of the blade, and how much pressure to apply for every cut, alongside techniques for preparing your tools, carving outdoors, and printing your work. We move at a steady, calm pace, explaining the reasoning behind each choice, from the grain of the lino to the tackiness of the ink. You can rewatch the lessons as many times as you need and follow along with me!
